To us at West Trek this is more than a tag line or throwaway phrase. This is something we truly believe in, invest in, and live by.
It represents the idea that no one is ever alone or excluded. It means new family, new friends, and making lasting memories and relationships. It dictates that we look after each other, and look out for each other. It also means we care for the environment in which we travel and respect the amazing natural landscapes that we are privileged to visit. As with all responsible travel, we aim to minimize our impact, and also give back through carefully chosen charities and organizations.
West Trek is proud to support the Never Cry Wolf Campaign to stop the unnecessary culling of wolves in British Columbia.
In January of 2014, the Liberal government of British Columbia announced a five-year plan that would see helicopter companies cull wolves in the South Peace and South Selkirk Regions. The cull was initiated in response to substantial declines in caribou herds and saw the death of 84 wolves during the first winter alone. Recently, the government announced that they are increasing the kill quote for the winter of 2016 and will continue to target entire packs, including pups. The true reason for decline in caribou is habitat loss and fragmentation. Logging, oil and gas, mining, seismic lines, and roads have wreaked havoc on critical caribou habitat, resulting in disrupted migration routes and calving grounds.
The Never Cry Wolf Campaign
Wildlife Defence League’s winter campaign combines advocacy efforts and in-depth fieldwork. Outreach to the public includes leafleting, tabling, speaking engagements, and creative activism to educate the public about the importance of ending wolf cull and protecting caribou in the province. This organization’s fieldwork puts Wildlife Defence League crew on the ground to monitor, document, and expose the wolf cull while showcasing the true reason for caribou decline–habitat fragmentation and loss.

The wolfpack philosophy dictates that we look after each other, and look out for each other, regardless if those in our pack are human or wolf. It also means we care for the environment in which we travel and respect the amazing natural landscapes that we are privileged to visit. These are important reminders of what space we occupy in our world, and how we want to leave the planet for future generations to come.
