West Trek Tours–now in our 20th year–offering the best value tours for the budget minded traveller. We are the Rocky Mountain experts and the #1 choice for budget travellers for 20 years!
The Pioneer is a perfect tour for those that want to see all the Rocky Mountain sights on a budget. This tour still gives you a chance to visit Banff for sightseeing and shopping while spending the night in Golden – situated between Yoho National Park and Glacier National Park. This is a more “chilled” tour that features the key sights without the price tag that goes with Banff. As with all of our Rocky Mountain Tours, it is the perfect mix of beautiful sightseeing, and awesome activities. Specifically, this tour includes visits to Emerald Lake, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, & Peyto Lake!
Day 1 – Travel from Vancouver to Valemount
Meet at 7:00 am to begin our journey to the Rocky Mountains. Our first stop is Hope where the original Rambo First Blood movie was filmed. From here we will make our way over the beautiful and scenic Coquihalla Highway to Kamloops, where we will stop for lunch. From Kamloops, we continue to Valemount, stopping at Spahats Falls on the way. We stop en route for you to pick up some dinner supplies. After checking into our hotel in Valemount we get the campfire going and invite you to bring your dinner out to the fire and meet new friends. After dinner you can take part in a game of Hockey in the Rockies! Great fun!
Day 2 – Valemount to Golden
Breakfast (included) before departing Valemount at approximately 8:00 am. Our first stop is Mount Robson – the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies. From there we head to Jasper before heading south on the famous Icefields Parkway – named one of the most beautiful drives in the world! Our first stop on the Parkway is Athabasca Falls before we reach the Columbia Icefields. At the Icefields we strongly recommend that you join the Glacier Snowcoach tour. This is a highlight for many of our guests. The enormous Snocoach will take you up onto the Athabasca Glacier for a great photo opportunity (remember your water bottle to taste some of the freshest water in the world!). After the Columbia Icefields we head to stunning Peyto Lake followed by Bow Lake where the brave can try a Polar Wolf Swim! After a full and busy day we check in to our in Golden. There are a number of great restaurants, pubs and sports bars you can visit in Golden.
Day 3 – Golden
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel (included) before we head to world famous Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. We strongly recommend the Lake Louise Gondola and all-you-can-eat buffet lunch. We LOVE all-you-can-eat buffets! Amazing value and incredible views all the way to Lake Louise. After the Lake Louise area we head over the Kicking Horse Pass to Emerald Lake, one of the most beautiful places to go canoeing (optional). That evening we check back in to a hotel in Golden. In the evening we’ll either have a campfire (if available) or head to a local pub for our last night party.
Day 4 – Golden to Vancouver
Today is the last day of your trip to the Rocky Mountains! After breakfast we begin our journey home traveling over Rogers Pass before stopping at The Last Spike on the trans-continental railway. From there we head through the Okanagan Valley. We stop for a relaxing lunch in Kelowna – home to a legendary water monster called Ogopogo! If the weather cooperates we have a beach stop in Kelowna and you have the opportunity for a dip in a beautiful lake. From Kelowna we drive through the Coquihalla Valley. We plan to arrive back in Vancouver at approximately 7:00 pm, where your unforgettable journey to the Canadian Rocky Mountains will come to an end.
